- Etinosa Idemudia has advised people living far from home to regularly check on their parents, noting that many elderly parents feel lonely as their children grow up, relocate, and become absorbed in their own lives.
Nollywood actress and producer Etinosa Idemudia has urged people living away from their parents to make a conscious effort to stay in touch and regularly check on them.
Sharing her thoughts on social media, Etinosa reflected on how parents often feel as their children grow older, build their own lives, and, in many cases, relocate to other countries. She noted that while adulthood comes with demanding responsibilities such as careers, marriage, and raising children, these should not lead to neglecting the parents who made sacrifices to raise them.
According to the actress, many parents have children with the hope that they will not face old age alone. However, reality often unfolds differently, as distance and new responsibilities gradually create emotional and physical gaps between parents and their children.
Etinosa explained that even though many parents understand that life has taken their children in new directions, the loneliness can still be deeply felt, particularly among elderly parents whose children live abroad.
She wrote:
“If you and your siblings live very far from your parents, please try to check on your parents regularly.
I know you are busy with your new life, career and kids, but don’t forget when they were young, they gave birth thinking, ‘When I’m old, I will not be lonely. My children will surround me,’ but reality hits different, reality hits hard… especially old ones with children abroad.
At the end of the day, sometimes, having kids because you want company in future doesn’t always pan out that way.”
