JUST IN: Court orders arrest of PDP factional chairman Turaki

PDP Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki

A high court of the FCT has ordered the arrest of Kabiru Turaki, a factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party over his failure to appear before the court in an ongoing criminal case.

The order was issued on Thursday by Justice U.P. Kekemeke following an application filed by the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of the Olatunji Disu, inspector-general of police.

The court held that Turaki had no justification for his absence and consequently directed security agencies to effect his arrest.

Turaki is facing a one-count charge bordering on allegedly providing false information to the police in a petition dated October 2022.

The development comes amid internal crises within the PDP, which has seen several defections by key members, including governors and lawmakers, in recent months.
