“They’re Operating in Confusion”- Solomon Dalung Says INEC is Lowest-Rated Government Institution

  • Solomon Dalung has criticised Independent National Electoral Commission, describing it as the lowest-rated government institution and urging it to rebuild public trust after the 2023 elections.
  • He, however, expressed hope that the commission could still improve its conduct in the future.

Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, has described the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the most poorly rated institution in the country.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Dalung criticised the electoral body’s performance, particularly referencing the outcome of the 2023 general elections.

He said, “When an individual sat to say, technical glitch and said, I’ve declared the results, if you disagree, then go to court. This has inflicted monumental pains amongst Nigerians.”

Dalung added that public perception of INEC has significantly declined, noting that even the mention of the commission now triggers frustration among many Nigerians.

“So, it is left for INEC to redeem its image, which, from their body language, they are still operating within the parameters of confusion. So we cannot judge them yet,” he said.

He, however, expressed hope that the commission could still improve its conduct in the future.

“Maybe, they may decide to align with posterity and do justice. That I don’t want to predict. But for grading of institutions in Nigeria, I think INEC is the lowest,” he stated.
