Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) leaders Rangers International FC believe the title race remains wide open after a dramatic weekend at the top of the table.
Technical adviser Fidelis Ilechukwu was quick to counter the notion that his side are NPFL favourites following his side’s goalless draw with Barau FC at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Sunday.
NOP NIGERIA reports that Rangers reclaimed first place despite dropping points at home after rivals Rivers United FC slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Warri Wolves FC in Ozoro.
With five matches remaining, Ilechukwu insists the title race is far from decided and expects twists before the season ends.
“Five games to go, the league title is still open. Rivers United lost today, but you can never say what can happen. The most important thing is that we will prepare for our next game,” he said.
The result leaves Rangers narrowly ahead in a tightly contested campaign where momentum has shifted repeatedly in recent weeks. The Enugu side knows consistency in the final stretch will be crucial if they are to secure a tenth league crown.
Attention now turns to a difficult away trip against Niger Tornadoes FC, a fixture that could further shape the outcome of the title race.
Meanwhile, Rivers United must regroup quickly as they prepare to host Plateau United FC on Sunday, April 12.
