Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu, a Nigerian lawyer, has raised concerns about the severity of crimes committed by some armed bandits in the country.…....
During an interview with SYMFONI TV on Sunday, May 24, 2026, he cited a case of a captured bandit who reportedly admitted during interrogation that he had killed so many people he could no longer keep count, while insisting he was telling the truth under oath.
Shittu said the incident reflects the extreme level of violence associated with such offenders and questioned how individuals responsible for such atrocities should be treated within the justice system.
He argued that such cases call for strict punishment, including the possibility of capital punishment, in line with the principle of retributive justice.
Here’s what he said,
“There was a case of a bandit who was captured and interviewed. They asked him, ‘How many people have you killed? He was swearing with God’s name that he won’t tell a lie, that he had lost count of the number of people he had killed.”
