“AK-47 Recovered” — Police Arrest Son, Accomplice For Allegedly Kidnapping Father Twice, Collecting ₦6.5m Ransom In Kaduna

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested two suspects, including a man accused of masterminding the abduction of his own father in Kaduna State.

The suspects, identified as Yusuf Rabo and Musa Adamu, were arrested following investigations into the kidnapping of Alhaji Rabo Jelani, an elderly businessman. Police said the victim’s grandson, Ali Haruna, who was also allegedly involved in the operation, is currently at large.

According to the police, investigations revealed that Yusuf Rabo allegedly conspired with Musa Adamu and Ali Haruna to abduct his father after claims that the victim had substantial wealth and livestock.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, said the suspects were linked to a syndicate involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and other violent crimes in Kaduna State and neighbouring communities.

Police alleged that the syndicate abducted Alhaji Jelani on two separate occasions and held him in forest hideouts while ransom negotiations were coordinated.

The first abduction allegedly yielded a ransom payment of ₦2 million, while the second reportedly generated ₦4.5 million, bringing the total ransom collected to ₦6.5 million.

The police further disclosed that the gang allegedly operated with AK-47 rifles, adding that one AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine was recovered during the operation.

Investigators said Ali Haruna allegedly supplied one of the firearms belonging to his father, while other weapons were sourced by members of the gang.

Beyond the kidnapping of Alhaji Jelani, the police said the suspects and their associates were also linked to other violent crimes, including the abduction of a trader identified as Mr. Iyke and an armed robbery attack along the Kagoma axis, where commuters were reportedly dispossessed of cash and valuables.

The police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect, Ali Haruna, recover additional weapons and dismantle the wider criminal network operating in the area.

Reaffirming its commitment to combating violent crimes, the Nigeria Police Force said it would continue intelligence-led operations against kidnapping and armed robbery syndicates across the country.
