Hon. Uche Onyeagucha, a former Secretary to the Government of Imo State and legal practitioner, has described the defection of suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as an act carried out under pressure rather than personal conviction.
Speaking during an interview on News Central TV, Onyeagucha reacted to the growing wave of defections into the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that some politicians were being forced into political realignments because of intimidation and pressure from powerful interests.
According to him, Fubara’s decision should not be viewed as a voluntary political move or a betrayal of his former political platform. He argued that the Rivers governor was pushed into a difficult situation that left him with little choice.
“People like Fubara were bullied to join, he didn’t cross carpet. He was bullied into joining,” Onyeagucha said during the interview.
The former Imo SSG maintained that the current political climate in the country has created an atmosphere where opposition politicians and public office holders feel vulnerable.
