JUST IN: Suspected KIllers Of Student Nurse In Imo, Chinwendu Achumba Apprehended (Full Details)

Youths in Umuadara, Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State have apprehended one of the suspected killers of Chinwendu Achumba, a student nurse at the College of Nursing, Umulogho, also known as Wendy Achumba.

Achumba, who had just completed her Midwifery programme and was on Post Basic, was found dead and decapitated in her off-campus apartment a few days ago. The discovery sparked outrage in the community and across social media, with demands for justice for the 23-year-old student described as calm and focused on her studies.

According to community sources, the youth leader, Chidiebere Iweajunwa, led the operation that led to the arrest of Onyema Okonkwo. In a video confession that went viral, Okonkwo said he and an accomplice identified only as Emmanuel stormed Achumba’s apartment around 7 p.m. He claimed they took turns raping her after she rejected their sexual advances.

“She was the only one in the house. The owner of the house is based in America. There were three students occupying the house. But two went for their nursing experience, leaving only her in the compound,” a source said.

Okonkwo stated that after the assault, he hit Achumba with a stick, while Emmanuel allegedly used a knife on her throat. “We wanted her to give us sex, she refused. We went to her house around 7 p.m. I had sex with her two times, Emmanuel had once. After that, I hit her with a stick. I didn’t know Emmanuel returned with a knife to kill her,” he said in the video.

The suspect has been handed over to the police. Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed that one suspect was arrested for preliminary questioning and that a manhunt is ongoing for other members of the gang.

“The Command is aware of the tragic incident involving the death of a female student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, whose body was discovered in her private off-campus apartment,” Okoye said. “The DPO and operatives promptly visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment, after which the body was recovered and deposited at the morgue, while investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and arrest those responsible.”
