- Nigerian singer Iyanya reacts after a social media user downplayed his musical achievements while explaining why Wizkid is hated in the music industry.
- A Twitter user had stated that Wizkid’s only crime is surpassing the benchmark set for him and becoming the benchmark himself
- Reposting the tweet, another user stated that people expected Wizkid to end up like Iyanya and Samklef.
- The tweet however didn’t sit well with Iyanya, who in response blasted the social media user
In a recent social media exchange, Iyanya took offense with a user who compared his career trajectory unfavorably to that of Wizkid.
The user, @Xperience_Snr, had reposted a comment from @itzbasito, which praised Wizkid for surpassing expectations and becoming a benchmark in the industry.
“Wizkid’s only crime is surpassing the benchmark set for him and becoming the benchmark himself” he tweeted.
Reposting it, @Xperience_Snr added that the expectation was for Wizkid to end up like Iyanya and Samklef, implying that their careers had not lived up to expectations.
“Same reason why Drake gets a lot of hate. The whole entertainment industry didn’t expect that little tiny white boy to get that far, Wizkid was supposed to end up like Samklef and Iyanya” the other user added
Iyanya however , took strong exception to this comparison, responding with a scathing tweet that wished the user a fate similar to his father’s.
“You will end up like your father” Iyanya fumed.
In a follow-up post, the singer lamented the toxic nature of social media, where years of hard work by creatives can be easily undermined by thoughtless comments.
“This space is toxic, y’all just wake up and undermine a creative’s years of work”.
Few months ago, Iyanya thanked Davido for boosting his career following Paris concert appearance.
During the event, Davido invited Iyanya, known for his hit track ‘Kukere‘, to the stage, where Iyanya seized the moment to thank Davido for the opportunity.
He stated that the experience reinforced the importance of engaging in music tours, especially for singers like him with a vast catalogue spanning over a decade.
Expressing his enthusiasm for interacting with fans, Iyanya also took the opportunity to reconfirm the release date of his forthcoming album.
