Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede poured out her heart in an emotional tribute to her late mother-in-law Mama Bukky Ajayi, marking nine years since her passing.
Veteran actress Zainab Bukky Ajayi was born February 2nd 1934 and died 82 years after on July 6th 2016.
In a touching Instagram post, Jegede expressed deep longing, reflecting on how much she wished her mother could meet her grandson, Xavier, who was born on November 1, 2018.
“Mama, I miss you,” she wrote, reminiscing about a recent lunch with a family friend that triggered a wave of emotions.
Jegede’s post resonated deeply with fans and colleagues, as she shared how her mother’s memory remains ever-present in her life.
Supporters flooded the comment section with messages of love, prayers, and comforting words. Many claimed Jegede and Bukky Ajayi share a striking resemblance, some applauded her for celebrating the actress regardless of blood, while others encouraged her to stay strong. Jegede wrote:
“Mama, 2 days ago was your remembrance want to say I miss you mama. Your grandson Xavier, he came Nov 1, 2018, yep he’s a big boy now, yes I wish you can see him Mama, I wish you can see the wonderful grandson you have.
Mama, I feel emotional today, and I don’t know why mama, I guess it’s because Shina and His Mom met us up for lunch, mama since then you’ve been on my mind. I want to use this as a tribute to you Mama Bukky 🕊️🕊️🕊️.”
Olakunle Fawole ‘Abounce’, the son of late actress, Bukky Ajayi, married Yvonne at a simple but classy wedding ceremony in Lagos in February 2017.
The couple met in 2004 on the set of Tade Ogidan’s famous drama series, ‘Behind the Siege’.
Sadly, in March 2019, Yvonne confirmed that her then-one-year-old marriage crashed three months after she got pregnant with their son.
In a 2022 interview with Mercy Johnson, Yvonne Jegede disclosed that her ex-husband is a deadbeat father who hasn’t shown any form of support or interest in the life of their son, Xavier.
She recounted how Olakunle Fawole only showed up once to see the child after she gave him an ultimatum and how he doesn’t celebrate their son on his birthdays.
Yvonne Jegede rose to prominence after she made a cameo appearance in the music video African Queen by 2Face Idibia alongside Annie Macaulay.
Born in Agenebode, Edo state, Jegede made her debut into Nollywood in 2004 when she acted in the movie ‘Missing Angel’. After her debut and starting to rise she had to leave Nigeria to study abroad before she returned into movie industry years after.
