- Okocha emphasized unity within the party and praised President Tinubu’s achievements, asserting that APC is ready to govern Rivers State
The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected Chief Tony Okocha as its new chairman. The election, conducted on Saturday, also saw the emergence of other key executives tasked with leading the party for the next four years.
The delegate congress, held via voice vote, was supervised by Dr. Adoye Omale, representing the party’s national secretariat. Chief Victor Giadom, the APC National Vice Chairman for the South-South region, praised the peaceful conduct of the event, describing it as a testament to the unity within the Rivers APC.
In his remarks, Giadom called on members to rally behind the newly elected leadership to strengthen the party’s position in the state.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Okocha expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and vowed to lead the party to victory in the 2027 elections. He addressed criticisms about the party’s cohesion and electoral capacity, asserting that APC is united and capable of conducting peaceful and credible elections.
“With the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, including the resumption of petroleum production at the Port Harcourt refinery, APC has a strong foundation to win elections in Rivers State,” Okocha stated.
He added, “Our goal is clear—to replace the current administration in Rivers State with an APC-led government in 2027. With your support, we will achieve this mission and steer the state toward better governance.”
The congress also elected individuals to key roles, including Deputy Chairman, State Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Auditor, Women Leader, Youth Leader, Legal Advisor, and zonal leaders for the state’s four senatorial districts.
Rivers State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Joseph Alalibo, oversaw the event, ensuring transparency and compliance with electoral guidelines.
With its new leadership in place, the Rivers APC is poised to strengthen its efforts and build momentum toward achieving its 2027 electoral ambitions.
