The Bauchi State Government needs to reconsider its approach and prioritize the welfare of its citizens. Failure to do so not only exacerbates economic hardship but also promote insecurity within the society. Therefore, the government must act responsibly to uphold the dignity and the life of its people.
The recent decision by the Bauchi State Government to close down some individuals businesses operating small shops, known locally as “masu containers”, along the roads within the state.
This decision has upset many because it’s happening when life is already hard for everyone. The prices of everything is raising up everyday more especially food items, and some people can’t even afford three meals a day. Now, instead of helping the public by introducing some welfare to the citizen that subsidize their hardship, the government is making things worse by kicking people out of their businesses.
Consider the case of malam Bappa mai shago, who has dedicated over 16 years to his business along Gongola Road in New GRA. Now he’s being told to vacate his shop, while he has two wives, seven children, and elderly parents dependent on him, the unexpected notice leaves him stranded without a means to provide for his family. Similarly, Bappa Dangi, who graduated three years ago and started his own business instead of waiting for uncertain government jobs, he just got married and now he’s being instructed to vacate his premises. How will he continue taking care of his family with this current economic situations?
Malam Sunusi Mai Fruit, another affected individual, He’s been selling fruit for eight years at his premises to support his family. The government’s decision mandate throws his livelihood into many challenges without offering viable alternatives.
Furthermore, Bello Alaramma also known as “Engr. Bello” who’s own A.B Gabarin Laundry service, employing seven workers under his wing, now faces the daunting task of sustaining his business and supporting his employees in the absence of a clear relocation plan. They are about the became jobless people.
The government should have thought this through better. If they had to close these shops, they should have found new places for them first. They should have given people time to move and let their customers know. Instead, they’re causing more problems for everyone.
The Bauchi State Government needs to reconsider its approach and prioritize the welfare of its citizens. Failure to do so not only exacerbates economic hardship but also promote insecurity within the society. Therefore, the government must act responsibly to uphold the dignity and the life of its people.
