- This was sequel to deliberations on the floor of the House during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Hon. Ismail Falgore during Thursday’s sitting.
- All four new emirate councils were abolished leaving only the Kano Emirate.
All four of the state’s recently established emirate councils have been disbanded by the Kano State House of Assembly.
After discussions on Thursday’s floor during plenary in the House, the impacted Emirates were dissolved.
On Thursday morning, the Kano State Emirates Council Amendment Bill passed second and third readings and was brought up for consideration on the House floor.
The law’s repeal, according to Deputy Speaker Muhammad Butu, will restore Kano’s former glory because the separation of the Kano emirate into five smaller states diminished the state’s ability and dignity on a national scale.
The Majority Leader, Alhaji Lawan Dala, said that the emirate council served as a custodian of culture which was distorted by the creation of the four additional emirates.
With the amendment of the law, all four new emirate councils were abolished leaving only the Kano Emirate.
The House also adopted a motion to create a new second-class emirate council in the state.
