- Former Speaker Dogara alleges Wike single-handedly financed and facilitated Bala Mohammed’s 2018 PDP gubernatorial primary victory
- Dogara claims Bala Mohammed betrayed Wike by criticizing him after receiving extensive financial and logistical support during election
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has accused Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, of betrayal and ingratitude towards the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
In a statement on Tuesday, Dogara claimed that Wike played a crucial role in Bala Mohammed’s 2019 election victory. He alleged that Wike provided financial and logistical support, helping him overcome strong opposition.
The statement, titled “Gov Bala vs. HE Wike: Let the Truth Be Told,” detailed how Wike allegedly financed Bala Mohammed’s 2018 gubernatorial campaign and influenced key decisions during the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primaries.
Dogara alleged that Wike instructed Chief Dan Orbih, then chairman of the PDP primary election panel, to ensure Bala Mohammed won the party’s ticket in 2018.
He also claimed that Wike funded the panel’s logistics, including providing a private jet for Orbih’s movements.
“Governor Bala Mohammed should remember that during the 2018 PDP primaries, when his chances were uncertain because Senator Abdul Ningi controlled the state party structure, we turned to Wike for help,” Dogara said.
According to him, Wike promised support and made key moves to secure Bala Mohammed’s victory.
He added that Wike appointed Chief Dan Orbih as chairman of the primary panel and arranged a private jet to bring Orbih from Benin City to Bauchi on the eve of the primaries.
Dogara further alleged that Bala Mohammed faced financial struggles during his campaign, and Wike stepped in to assist. At a fundraising event in Abuja, Wike allegedly provided financial backing without demanding anything in return.
He criticized Bala Mohammed for making negative remarks about Wike, calling him a “serial betrayer” who lacks gratitude.
He also accused the governor of alienating key allies, including his political mentor, Alhaji Bello Kirfi, and others who played vital roles in his political rise.
