Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has expressed his condolences and paid tribute to Nollywood actor Mr Ibu.
He also expressed his condolences to the ex-goalkeeper of the Super Falcons, Bidemi Aluko Olaseni, describing their deaths as a big loss to the creative and sports industry.
Known for his comedic roles, Mr Ibu’s passing was a shock to many in the entertainment industry. Atiku Abubakar praised his talent, and contribution to the entertainment industry, stating that he will be greatly missed.
Taking to his X handle, Atiku Abubakar wrote:
“The reported deaths of actor and comedian John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu and ex-goalkeeper of the Super Falcons, Bidemi Aluko Olaseni, is a big loss to our creative and sports industries.
These two great Nigerians lived to give us happy moments in entertainment and the beautiful game. They will be sorely missed.
“I pray that the Almighty shall grant their souls a peaceful repose and comfort to the grieving families and the country. Rest in peace, Mr. Ibu. Rest in peace, Bidemi Olaseni. -AA”

Mr Ibu died in the late hours of Saturday, 2nd of March, 2024, at age 62.

Expressing profound sorrow over his untimely demise, Silverdam’s post served as a somber reminder of the indelible mark Mr. Ibu left on the industry.
A multitude of movie stars, including Mike Godson, Grace Amah, and comedian Klint De Drunk, have taken to their respective social media platforms to express their disbelief and extend heartfelt condolences.
