I am more impressed with the statement by the IGP when he said that the SIS will work together with community leaders, residents, and all stakeholders to fortify the already strong bonds between the Police Force and the communities, ensuring that every corner of the FCT remains a haven for its inhabitants.

On Wednesday, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, launched the special intervention squad for the Federal Capital Territory.
I recall that on June 26, 2023, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, said 40,000 specially trained elite officers would be deployed to the newly created Special Intervention Squad of the Nigeria Police.
IGP Egbetokun said this on Monday in Abuja at a conference with commanders of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Special Protection Unit (SPU), and other tactical units.
At the Wednesday inauguration of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), IGP Egbetokun said that the SIS was conceived as an elite unit of the Nigeria Police Force.
He further said that the SIS is composed of specially trained, well-equipped, and highly mobile police officers and possesses the capacity for rapid intervention and effective containment of significant security breaches, such as those currently threatening the suburb of the FCT and creating panic generally.
He emphasised that this initiative is not just born out of necessity but out of foresight, diligent planning, and commitment to enhancing the already robust security architecture of our nation’s capital.
Despite the challenges before the Nigeria police, the SIS has been inaugurated as a bold strategy aimed at dismantling the criminal networks entrenched in various communities.
I am more impressed with the statement by the IGP when he said that the SIS will work together with community leaders, residents, and all stakeholders to fortify the already strong bonds between the Police Force and the communities, ensuring that every corner of the FCT remains a haven for its inhabitants.
I took time to reel out the objectives of the Special Intervention Squad to some community leaders at Kawu of Bwari Area Council during the show of force after the inauguration, which are explained below: asked me to give him the objectives of the
The Special Intervention Squad is aimed at rapid response to critical incidents such as hostage situations, terrorist threats, or high-risk criminal activities; protection of public safety and preservation of order during high-intensity situations; conducting specialised operations to neutralise and apprehend dangerous individuals or groups; providing specialised tactical support to other law enforcement agencies or units during complex operations; implementation of specialised training and equipment to handle high-risk situations effectively; building positive relationships with communities; and enhancing public trust through effective crisis management and conflict resolution.
Overall, the primary goal of a Special Intervention Squad is to ensure the safety and security of the public and to respond effectively to high-risk situations that require specialised skills and resources.
They were so full of happiness and poured out encomium and prayers for IGP Egbetokun’s timely inauguration.
They reiterated their willingness to work with the Special Intervention Squad by providing adequate information and sharing intelligence with the squad.
With the launch of the SIS in the FCT, the IGP has restored the hope of FCT residents and its environment.
