Jimi Lawal, a former PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State, has abandoned his support for Governor Dapo Abiodun’s ambition for a second term, according to People’s Gazzette.
In a meeting held at The Ijebu-Ode Club on Thursday, he expressed his support for Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and urged his supporters to vote for Mr. Otegbeye.
Ibikunle Amosun, the recently-resigned governor of Ogun State, is supporting Mr. Otegbeye and has promised to remove his successor, Dapo Abiodun, from office.
During the meeting, Mr. Lawal urged hundreds of his fans in Ogun East to vote for ADC in the next election on Saturday.
Mr Lawal’s support for ADC comes a few days after he openly endorsed Mr Abiodun for a second term. There were reports that the endorsement was procured for up to $1 million. The governor and Mr Lawan could not be reached for comments on the allegation.
But on Thursday, Mr Lawal said he withdrew his support from Mr Abiodun because his administration is corrupt, retrogressive and cared less about workers’ welfare.
“He made mention how this present government of Dapo Abiodun has set the state backward. Including his ill treatment of teachers, local governments workers and state civil servants. Also the depletion on IGR is due to high corruption in his administration,” one source at the meeting said.
