The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed his support for Atiku Abubakar’s request to broadcast the court proceedings of the 2023 presidential election cases live.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Obi’s lead lawyer, Dr. Levi Ozoukwu, SAN, made his position known to journalists after Wednesday’s court session.
Ozoukwu stated that live broadcasts of court proceedings were initiated by the colonial masters and should be reinstated because the current situation in the country demands it.
He noted that live broadcasting would enable Nigerians to have firsthand information about the proceedings, dispel any doubts in their minds, and improve transparency.
He also pointed out that the courtroom is too small and can hardly accommodate 200 people, which is a far cry from a reasonable representation of the people.
Ozoukwu added that Obi and the Labour Party will support Atiku and the PDP in the hearing of the application.
The Presidential Election Petition Court hearing cases against the conduct of the February 25 presidential election adjourned the petition of Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) against the election of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for one week.
The adjournment was at the instance of all parties to the matter, aimed at achieving an expeditious hearing of the petition.
