The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced Hon. Habeebat Deen as its deputy governorship candidate for the upcoming November 11, 2023 election in the State.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the announcement was made by Senator Dino Melaye, the governorship candidate of the party, during a brief unveiling ceremony at the private residence of former Governor Ibrahim Idris, in Abuja.
Mrs Deen, a former member of the Kogi State House of Assembly, hails from Ankpa local government area of Kogi East senatorial zone in the State.
Speaking at the event, Senator Melaye stated that the PDP’s choice of a female running mate was unprecedented in the State and demonstrated the party’s commitment to innovative and different approaches to politics.
Other PDP stalwarts and members present at the event included Engr. Sam Ohuotu, the State PDP chairman; Brigadier General Tunde Ogbeha (rtd); Prince Olusola Akanmode; Dr. Tom Adaba; and Mrs Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, among others.
Gen. Ogbeha commended Senator Melaye for nominating a female candidate for the deputy governorship position, saying that it was a divine choice that would generate interest and goodwill for the party. He also appealed to all PDP members to support Melaye’s candidacy for the success of the party in the forthcoming election.
Former Governor Ibrahim Idris called for unity among PDP members in the State to ensure victory at the polls.
“We need to work together as members of the same family. If that is done, I believe success is ours,” Idris said.
“Dino has shown that he is ready to do the work. He has been saying things that show that he means business,” Idris added.
Meanwhile, Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan hailed the party’s gender balance and promised to mobilize women in Kogi Central for the success of the PDP in the election.
