Five days after Alhaja Sikirat Odumosu, wife of former Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Hakeem Odumosu, was abducted in Arepo, Ogun State, the police are yet to establish contact with her kidnappers.
The incident occurred on Thursday, January 16, around 9:55 p.m., as Sikirat was about to enter her residence on Aminu Street, Orange Estate, Arepo, a border community with Lagos State.
Eyewitnesses said four heavily armed men intercepted her Lexus SUV, forcibly dragged her out, and whisked her away through a swampy area to an unknown location.
The Ogun State Police Command deployed a team of officers to the scene a day after the abduction. However, five days later, there has been no breakthrough in securing her release, sparking growing concern among residents over her safety and the area’s security.
Residents have called on law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victim and prevent similar incidents. Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, said: “No update yet. An investigation is still ongoing, but she’sfine. ”
When asked if contact hadbeen made with the kidnappers, Odutola stated: “Even if contact is established, it won’t be a matter of public discussion.
What matters is rescuing her and apprehending the kidnappers.”
She added, “We are treating this as the kidnapping of a Nigerian. No individual attachment should be placed on the case.” Odutola further disclosed that the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has been briefed and all available resources, including digital intelligence operations, have been deployed to ensure the victim’s safe return.
