Our leaders take us for fools as we loyally follow and do their commands. Although, aphorism says that ‘you have to be under someone to become somebody, you have to serve someone for you to be served,’ there should be a limit to everything.
Serving your boss, never breaking any trait during his entire administration, promoting his agenda here and there, and being bunny throughout his administration is a loyalty, however, in some quarters, it is indirect slavery.
At the end of the administration, will your loyalty be recalled as loyalty or slavery, ask yourself, will my loyalty be seen and called as one? Will the memories of the good terms being together during the administration be unforgettable?
Given the above, analyzing the administration of Mike Pence and Donald Trump‘s administration, loyalty can be doubted as slavery.
A renowned Politico senior media writer, Jack Shafer, in his article “What’s the Matter With Mike Pence?” Wrote how loyal and serving Mike Pence is in Trump’s administration.
He expressed, nobody served the Trump administration more dutifully, neither Jared, Ivanka, nor Melania, than Mike Pence
“Nobody — not Jared, not Ivanka, and certainly not Melania — punched the Trump administration time clock more dutifully than former Vice President Mike Pence. Serving in a mostly ceremonial role, he would stand stiffly at Trump’s side as if paralyzed by a hefty dose of succinylcholine and listen unblinkingly as the president spoke.”
Notwithstanding, He added, no matter how the situations are, Mike Pence never held back or went against Trump, however, He remained subservient during the entire Trump administration.
“He never broke character during the entire Trump presidency, presumably mopping the White House floors when asked, casting tie-breaking votes in the Senate when needed, bundling up and taking out the trash, promoting the Trump agenda overseas, and chasing dust bunnies as ordered. Even after Joe Biden won the presidency and Trump lied about the election being stolen, Pence remained mute and subservient, correcting Trump neither in public nor private,” he wrote.
And until January 2021, when Trump told Pence to overturn the 2020 election results, then he cease to do that.
However, did all the good terms being together remembered? No, Mike Pence become the foe of his boss, he became the target of Trump. Didn’t his loyalty became slavery?
Our leaders take us for fools as we loyally follow and do their commands. Although, aphorism says that ‘you have to be under someone to become somebody, you have to serve someone for you to be served,’ there should be a limit to everything.
We are living in a world where superiors deprive the right of their followers by shutting them up with the threat of intimidation, if refused to condone and partake in their wrongdoings.
Why would you let your loyalty become slavery when you have the freedom of expression as your fundamental right?
Expressing your fundamental rights appropriately doesn’t mean disloyalty. Sometimes, telling your master he is wrong will not change the fact that you are obedient and loyal, however, allowing your superior to deprive your right defined you as a person with poor quality judgment or little intelligence.
Shun all kinds of loyalty that stretches like slavery, you can’t satisfy human wants, it is human nature to require more. Have the guts to express your freedom.
