Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Tuesday boasted that everybody knows who was behind the bulk vote that the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu got from Rivers State in the February 25 election.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain said he owes nobody any apology for supporting the emergence of a southern presidency.
Wike was speaking at the inauguration of Government Secondary School in Kpor Community of Gokana Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State.
“How can people say that they rigged you (in the March 18 elections). You (referring to Tonye Cole, the All Progressives Congress, APC gubernatorial candidate in Rivers State) said you made your presidential candidate to win.
“Your presidential candidate won, but you don’t get one senate (seat). What kind of wining is that?” the Rivers governor asked rhetorically.
This newspaper recalls that Tinubu polled a total of 231,591 votes in Rivers State as against Peter Obi of the Labour Party’s 175,071 votes. Obi emerged second in the South-South state.
The presidential candidate of Wike’s party whom the governor refused to support, Atiku Abubakar, scored 88,468 to come third, while Rabiu Kwankwaso, the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) garnered 1,322 votes.
