- ADC Chairman Ralph Okey Nwosu calls for opposition unity to address Nigeria’s economic and security challenges during the Digital Political Academy launch
- Nwosu emphasizes the need for a strong opposition to safeguard democracy, urging decisive action against human rights abuses and government failures
The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Okey Nwosu, has expressed concern over the country’s worsening economic and security challenges, blaming the opposition’s failure to unite and offer a credible alternative.
During Thursday’s official launch of the ADC Digital Political Academy at the party’s Global Campus in Abuja, Nwosu urged opposition parties to close ranks, emphasizing the need for a strong and united front to address Nigeria’s pressing issues.
He stated, “The state of the nation, with a declining economy and worsening security under the APC, should inspire all opposition parties to act.
The recent elections in Edo and Ondo, coupled with increasing human rights abuses, highlight the weakness of the opposition. This weakness endangers our democracy and exposes citizens to further harm.”
Nwosu appealed to opposition parties to take decisive action, saying, “For families struggling with hunger, for unemployed graduates, the opposition must rise to the occasion. ADC and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) remain committed to justice and building a strong opposition to safeguard democracy.”
He also called on federal authorities to ensure the safety and release of human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi and urged security agencies to respect citizens’ rights. “Institutions are being trashed, and citizens’ rights are being violated. This must stop,” he said.
Highlighting the launch of the Digital Political Academy, Nwosu explained its purpose: “The academy is designed to foster an informed and engaged citizenry equipped with critical thinking skills to drive positive societal change.
We aim to empower citizens to interrogate policies, hold leaders accountable, and make informed decisions during elections.”
The initiative seeks to create awareness and promote enlightenment among aspiring politicians and the general public to strengthen democracy in Nigeria.
