Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has stirred reactions with a bold claim on social media.
The street singer claims he is talented enough to win the wildly coveted Grammy award, adding that any artiste who collaborates with him will bag one as well.
His statement comes in the wake of the 67th Grammy Awards which took place on Sunday, January 2, where Nigerian singer Tems made history by securing her second Grammy.
Tems’ hit song, ‘Love Me Jeje’ emerged victorious over “Tomorrow” (Yemi Alade); “MMS” (Asake & Wizkid); “Sensational” (Chris Brown featuring Davido & Lojay); and “Higher” (Burna Boy).
“Love Me Jeje”, a sample of Seyi Sodimu’s 1997 song of the same title, has received critical acclaim from global music buffs following its release last April.
In a viral video, Portable lamented being overlooked, insisting that he had the potential to claim a Grammy if given the opportunity.
In Portable’s words:
“Olamide picked me and I came out from nowhere, nobody rise me, God is my pioneer.”
“I’m telling you, if not that you neglected me, I would have won a Grammy. Feature me if you want to collect Grammy, drop verse for me, I get chorus. Ordinary woman collected the Grammy from you people.”
He further emphasized his resilience, sharing the video with a caption:
“Failure is not an option for me. I don’t have backup, I am the backup. That’s why I am working hard. I believe in my phone and sub. Any disappointment is a blessing.”
