According to Onanuga, the choice was made in honour of Professor Soyinka’s contribution to African literature and her status as the first African recipient of the Nobel Literature Prize.
The newly opened Professor Wole Soyinka Highway runs from Northern Parkway to the Outer Northern Motorway, or ONEX, and was named by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This was announced in a post on X on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special assistant on information and strategy.
According to Onanuga, the choice was made in honour of Professor Soyinka’s contribution to African literature and her status as the first African recipient of the Nobel Literature Prize.
He wrote: “President Tinubu has named the Arterial Road N20 from Northern Parkway to Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) as Professor Wole Soyinka Highway as recommended by the FCT administration.
“In naming the road after the distinguished playwright, poet and novelist who clocks 90 on 13 July, President Tinubu said Soyinka was the first African to win the Nobel Literature Prize.
“He said Soyinka has brought honour and fame to Nigeria.”
