Fabiyi described himself as a father figure to Imisi, revealing she was once his student at his film academy and had supported him long before her fame. He added that despite past experiences with ingratitude, he remains committed to doing what’s right and doesn’t let negativity affect his actions.
Nollywood actor and filmmaker Yomi Fabiyi has explained that his public support for Big Brother Naija Season 10 winner, Imisi, stemmed from genuine loyalty and gratitude rather than personal interest or financial benefit.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, Fabiyi revealed that his relationship with Imisi began long before her rise to fame, describing himself as a “father figure” to her in the movie industry.
He said, “I am an adult and like a father to her in the film industry. She was the only housemate I knew personally. Everything I do, she supports. For instance, when I had my housewarming, she stayed throughout and made sure the event went well. Supporting her during the show was simply the right thing to do.”
Fabiyi further disclosed that Imisi’s entertainment journey started under his mentorship. “Imisi was one of my students at my film academy, and beyond that, she has always been supportive of me and my son. We used to live in the same area in Ikorodu, and she’s been helpful long before the fame,” he said.
When asked if he had any reservations about publicly supporting her, given that some people he once helped had turned against him, Fabiyi said he doesn’t allow such experiences to influence his actions.
“I don’t think about things like that. Of course, in today’s social media world, some people distance themselves from those who helped them just to appear self-made. They don’t want anyone to have bragging rights over their success,” he explained.
The actor emphasized that he remains undisturbed by such attitudes, saying, “No matter the level of ingratitude, I don’t let it get to me. I’ll keep doing what’s right.”
