Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has denied endorsing any candidate for the 2027 governorship election or other political positions in Rivers State, stating that such decisions rest solely with the state’s elders.

Wike said the responsibility for selecting candidates lies with the Rivers Elders Council led by Ferdinand Alabraba, stressing that no single individual has the authority to impose candidates on the state.

“I have not endorsed anybody for any position. That responsibility belongs to the elders, and they will meet and decide,” he said.

The minister, however, reaffirmed his political support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting that his current commitment remains focused on backing the president.

Wike spoke on Monday night during a joint stakeholders’ meeting involving members of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja.

Addressing concerns over political developments in Rivers State, Wike warned aspirants against relying on imposition, insisting that Rivers voters would resist any attempt to force candidates on them.

He also acknowledged the role of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule, describing its actions as important to the ongoing political situation in the state.

Wike urged members of the emerging coalition across party lines to remain united and focus on the collective interest of Rivers State, warning against divisions fueled by personal ambition.

He further alleged that external forces were attempting to weaken the coalition due to its growing strength, adding that unity among members remained their greatest advantage.

Reiterating his position, Wike dismissed reports of secret endorsements, maintaining that the only recognised endorsement at present is for the presidency.

He also commended council chairmen, Rivers elders, and party leaders for fostering unity and cooperation during the stakeholders’ meeting.
