BREAKING: Kano deputy gov Abdussalam-Gwarzo resigns

Kano Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo 1

Aminu Abdussalam-Gwarzo, Kano state deputy governor has resigned from office.

The Kwankwasiyya movement confirmed on Friday in a statement issued by Habibu Sale Mohammed, its spokesperson.

The resignation comes amid ongoing impeachment proceedings initiated by the Kano state house of assembly.

Abdussalam had earlier sought to halt the process through a federal high court sitting in Kano, but his application was rejected on Wednesday.

“The Kwankwasiyya movement wishes to formally inform the general public, the good people of Kano state, and the entire nation that the deputy governor of Kano state has tendered his resignation from office,” the statement said.

The movement described the decision as difficult but necessary “in the overall interest of the people and the stability of governance in the state.”

It cited constraints that had hindered “the full realization of the benefits and responsibilities attached to the office of the Deputy Governor.”

The statement emphasised that Abdussalam’s resignation does not imply an admission of any allegations raised against him by the state assembly.

“The deputy governor maintains his innocence and firmly believes that his records in office and public service remain a testament to his integrity and commitment to the people,” it added.

The move was also framed as an act of statesmanship to preserve peace and avoid political tension that could disrupt governance.
