The Lagos state judiciary has announced its 2026 Easter vacation, with court activities set to pause from April 3.
This was stated in an official notice signed by the Chief Registrar, Mr. Tajudeen Elias, and made available to judicial correspondents in Lagos.
The statement stated that the vacation was approved by the state Chief Judge, Justice Kazeem Alogba, in line with Order 49 Rule 4(b) of the High Court of Lagos state (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.
The notice stated that normal court sittings would resume on April 10, 2026 while full judicial activities are expected to recommence on April 13, 2026.
Despite the break, the judiciary assured the public that measures have been put in place to address urgent matters during the vacation period.
Elias added that designated judges on vacation duty would attend to urgent applications relating to cases already assigned to them. He added that applications not tied to any specific judge would be handled by judges specially assigned for that purpose.
He further noted that notwithstanding the provisions guiding court vacations, any urgent case may still be heard during the period, provided the conditions outlined under Order 49 Rule 5 of the High Court of Lagos State (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019, are strictly followed
