The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe state has received a major boost ahead of the general elections, as 293 groups from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officially defected to the ruling party in Potiskum Local Government Area.
The defectors, who include members of prominent political groups such as Tora-Bora, Texaco, Sokol-Jigawa, Dorawa, Kabul, Kamfala, Old Kwata, Rasha, and Big Soja, were led by the Chairman of the PDP in Potiskum LGA, Audu Hamisu, popularly known as Soja Boy.
Receiving the decampees, the Yobe state APC chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Gadaka, welcomed them warmly and urged them to work diligently for the party’s victory in the upcoming elections.
He described the APC as an all-inclusive party and the largest political platform in the state, assuring them of a level playing field for every member.
In his remarks, the leader of the defectors, Audu Hamisu (Soja Boy), explained that their decision to join the APC was motivated by the policies and programmes of the current APC-led government, which they said, had positively influenced their political alignment.
The mass defection is seen as a significant political realignment in Potiskum, given that it was led by the sitting PDP local government chairman.
