The National Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Edo State governor, John Odigie-Oyegun, has said that many Nigerians are unhappy with the current state of the country and are calling for political change.
NOP NIGERIA reports that in an interview with Leadership Newspaper, he noted that this feeling is strong, especially among young people.
He explained that since the 2023 general elections, frustration has continued across different parts of the country.
According to him, many citizens still express disappointment over how things are being run and are demanding a new direction in leadership.
Oyegun also said he believes his active role in frontline politics is gradually coming to an end.
He stated that he now sees it as time for younger politicians to take over and lead the push for change in the country.
Oyegun added that his political journey has been fulfilling and that he considers it a completed mission in terms of building and supporting political movements.
He said the responsibility should now be handed over to a younger generation that is more active in today’s political space.
The former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain further noted that the message from young Nigerians during the 2023 elections was clear, as many of them rejected the existing system and called for change. He said that message is still shaping political discussions in the country.
He said: “When the youths came out in 2023, they made a statement that enough is enough and that statement is reverberating till today. For me, it is a mission accomplished, it is not going to be a bed of roses. For the second time, we are about to remove a sitting government again.”
