All 13 remaining passengers, including the Joint Admissions
and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination candidates abducted from an
18-seater Benue Links bus last Wednesday along the Makurdi-Otukpo road by armed
men, have regained their freedom.
It was gathered that about eight of the released victims
were candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB,
examinations who were heading to Otukpo for their exam when they were abducted.
Details surrounding their rescue have not yet been made
public by the authorities; however, sources indicate that the victims were
freed in the early hours of Sunday.
The passengers were reportedly held captive for about three
days following the attack on the bus while en route to Otukpo.
Security operatives were said to have intensified efforts in
the area in the days leading up to their rescue on Sunday morning.
Following their release, the victims were immediately
evacuated for urgent medical care.
They are currently receiving treatment at the Federal
University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Otukpo.
The Benue State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ifeanyi Emenari,
who confirmed the rescue, promised to brief the media on the development.
