The Accord Party has firmly denied reports suggesting it endorsed President Bola Tinubu, clarifying that its primary focus remains on backing Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for the 2026 governorship election.

This clarification came during a press conference held in Abuja on Thursday, April 23, 2026, amid controversy sparked by a billboard in Iwo, Osun State, that featured images of both President Tinubu and Governor Adeleke. The All Progressives Congress (APC) had accused Adeleke of attempting to exploit Tinubu’s image for political gain, though Adeleke’s camp rejected the claim.

National Chairman of the Accord Party, Maxwell Mgbudem, addressed the rumors directly, stating there was no endorsement of President Tinubu. “There is nothing like that. This is a political party and Governor Adeleke is our candidate. If there is any such endorsement, I assure you that the media will be the first to know. It will come from here,” he said.

Mgbudem emphasized that any official endorsement by the party would be communicated through proper channels. He expressed strong confidence in Adeleke’s performance and popularity, noting that the people of Osun State are eager to re-elect him in 2026 due to his achievements.

The party recently concluded its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and is currently finalizing arrangements for primaries, with several aspirants already purchasing nomination forms for various positions. On internal party matters, Mgbudem dismissed claims of any leadership crisis or factionalism. He stated there is no court order favoring any individual, such as Imumolen, that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) needs to comply with.

The Accord Party has consistently positioned Governor Adeleke as its candidate for the Osun governorship poll scheduled for August 2026. Adeleke, who defected to the party from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), emerged as the sole aspirant in the party’s primary and has received recognition as the official flag bearer.

This development occurs against the backdrop of political realignments in Osun State, where Adeleke is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform amid ongoing debates and cross-party accusations.

The party remains optimistic about victory, insisting it is not concerned about opposition challenges.
