The Abia State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced that it will not conduct any ward, local government, or state congresses earlier scheduled to hold between April 7 and April 14, 2026.
NOP NIGERIA reports that the party disclosed this in a communication sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), party members, ward and local government executives, as well as the general public.
In a statement signed by the Abia State ADC Chairman, Don Norman Obinna, the party said the decision was based on a recent ruling by the Appeal Court, which upheld the status quo ante bellum.
Obinna noted that the development led to the removal of the David Mark-led National Working Committee from INEC’s official website.
The chairman further explained that INEC, in compliance with the court ruling, had directed ADC state officers not to oversee the planned congresses and the party’s National Convention.
He stressed that the tenure of the current ward, local government, and state executives in Abia State remains valid and unaffected.
Calling for restraint among party faithful, Obinna urged members and stakeholders to maintain peace and unity during the period.
“Therefore, party members, leaders and stakeholders are urged to remain calm, stay positive, and promote the constructive message of ADC while refraining from acts that could disturb peace in their areas,” he said.
Obinna assured members that steps were being taken to reposition the party and restore stability.
“Rest assured, efforts are ongoing to revitalise the party and restore normalcy,” he added.
He also pledged that party members would be duly informed of any further developments regarding the situation.
