The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Olohundare Jimoh, has directed an immediate end to the transfer of cases from the Lagos and Ogun state Police commands to the zonal headquarters, insisting that both commands must take full responsibility for investigations within their jurisdictions.

The directive was issued during his first strategic security meeting with Commissioners of Police from the two states, convened to evaluate the current security landscape and operational readiness as political activities ahead of the general elections begin to gather momentum.

Jimoh emphasised that complaints or petitions relating to investigative lapses would no longer warrant case transfers but would instead be returned to the respective state commands for proper handling and timely feedback to the zonal office.

He, however, noted that in situations requiring specialised expertise, the zonal command would deploy investigators to support the state commands in ensuring swift resolution and prosecution of offenders.

The AIG described the security situation in Lagos and Ogun as stable, citing notable achievements in crime prevention and control.

He urged the commands to sustain momentum by intensifying surveillance patrols, strengthening stop-and-search operations, and enhancing intelligence-led investigations.

Jimoh also highlighted the importance of community policing, noting that collaboration with residents, stakeholders, and interest groups has contributed significantly to improved security outcomes in both states.

He further charged officers to uphold professionalism and adhere strictly to operational guidelines, warning that misconduct would attract disciplinary measures.

According to him, five inspectors were recently dismissed after being found guilty of offences including unprofessional conduct and human rights violations.

The AIG commended the Inspector-General of Police for providing logistical and operational support that has aided policing efforts in the zone.

He also acknowledged the support of the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, particularly in the provision of patrol vehicles, logistics, and training through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, which he said has strengthened security operations.

Similarly, he praised the Ogun state government for equipping the police with patrol vehicles and other resources to boost operational capacity.

Jimoh assured residents of continued efforts to maintain peace and safety across both states.

The Commissioners of Police in Lagos and Ogun states, Fatai Tijani and Bode Ojajuni (represented), reaffirmed their commitment to enforcing discipline within their ranks and implementing the strategies outlined by the AIG.
