Tension has gripped residents of Afikpo in Afikpo local government area of Ebonyi state following the gruesome murder of a 20-year-old commercial motorcycle operator, Ezekiel Eluu Egwu, by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
The incident reportedly occurred near the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Church located in the Low Cost area of the town, throwing the community into fear and uncertainty.
The deceased, who hails from Ezi Agbo Amaokwu Amangbala, was said to be operating a commercial motorcycle under a hire-purchase arrangement for a resident of Ugwuegu community, identified as a fashion designer along the Holy Child Secondary School axis.
A resident, Okoro Augustine, who spoke weekend, narrated that the victim’s elder brother disclosed the tragic incident during a village meeting held at the Ogo Amangwu Amangbala playground.
He stated that a fellow motorcycle operator had earlier seen the deceased along Mater Hospital Road and asked him to follow him, only to later discover his lifeless body with severe injuries, including his head and neck reportedly dangling.
He added that leaders of the Amangbala community, including the Development Union Chairman and Youth President, immediately took up the matter, seeking clarification on how the corpse was deposited at the mortuary without notifying the family.
