The Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC) has commenced the assembly of 525 customised motorcycles under its youth hire-purchase scheme, in order to create sustainable livelihoods and boost commercial activity.

Speaking at the launch, Group Managing Director of BIPC in Makurdi, Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, explained that the motorcycles form the first phase of 10,000 units expected from China.

He said the initiative was secured following Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s visit to the Asian nation in 2024.

Dr Asemakaha noted that the agreement with the Chinese company goes beyond motorcycle supply, including training opportunities for Benue youths in Software Development Kit (SDK) and motorcycle assembly.

He emphasised that the project is designed to reduce unemployment, foster self-reliance, and deepen economic participation across the state.

“The hire-purchase scheme has already benefited several young people in earlier phases, and this latest batch represents a major scale-up.

“With many youths relying on commercial motorcycle operations for survival, the programme is expected to expand access to income-generating opportunities in the transportation sector,” he noted.

Commending Governor Alia for providing an enabling environment, Dr Asemakaha said the state government’s support continues to strengthen BIPC’s mission of job creation, industrial growth, and economic empowerment.

“The motorcycle assembly project is set to reinforce BIPC’s role as a key driver of youth development and internally generated revenue growth in Benue State,” he added.
