
At least four people have been confirmed dead following a suspected attack by armed herdsmen on Mbapa in Gwer West Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue state.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening, leaving the community in shock and fear.
One victim was reported to have survived but remains unconscious and several residents are still missing, raising concerns that the death toll may increase.
An eyewitness account revealed that the attack began in the early hours of the evening, throwing the community into confusion.
The eyewitness who simply gave his name as Tyokula noted that there was panic as residents fled into nearby bushes and neighbouring communities to escape the violence.
He said the attack has left Mbapa and surrounding areas in turmoil with many residents abandoning their homes.
According to him, the atmosphere in the community has remained tense as families search for missing loved ones.
He said the attack has resulted to tension in nearby communities and many families have also fled their homes for fear of further attacks
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear.
As of the time of this report, no official statement by security agencies have been issued.
The Benue state government has yet to comment on the situation.
It could be noted that Gwer West and other parts of Benue state have experienced repeated clashes linked to herdsmen attacks in recent years.
Few days, the attackers killed residents in the LGA.
