Ministers serving under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are reportedly gripped by anxiety following the recent removal of some members of the Federal Executive Council.

The development comes after the President relieved Wale Edun of his duties as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, alongside Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.

According to Vanguard, a serving minister, who visited the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, described the mood within the cabinet as tense.

He said jokingly, “There is an earthquake going on; everyone is in panic mode now.”

Prior to the reshuffle, concerns had been raised in some quarters about the performance of certain cabinet members.

Some appointees were reportedly described as “square pegs in round holes,” amid allegations that they lacked the capacity to effectively implement the administration’s policies.

A source within the Presidency said that while the President has good intentions, some appointees have struggled with policy execution.

The source said, “The President means well for this country, but some appointees appear bereft of ideas on how to translate policies into reality.”

Although the reshuffle was welcomed in some quarters, there have been calls for additional changes, including the removal or reassignment of underperforming ministers.

One of the sectors drawing concern is the power sector, which remains critical to economic growth.

Despite ongoing reforms, many Nigerians have continued to lament worsening electricity supply, raising questions about performance within the ministry.
