The Christian Association of Nigeria has denied allegations of an internal split and diversion of relief funds, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, said reports suggesting a division along Northern and Southern lines, as well as mismanagement of funds meant for persecuted Christians in Northern Nigeria, were unfounded.

“We state, in the clearest possible terms: these allegations are entirely false, unfounded, and deliberately misleading,” the association said.

CAN stressed that it had neither received nor managed any such relief funds, stating that “no funds have been diverted under any circumstance.”

“The narrative being promoted is a fabrication, calculated to misinform the public, erode trust, and bring the Church into disrepute,” it added.

The body maintained that it remains united, dismissing claims of any internal crisis.

“CAN remains one united and indivisible body. There is no split, no secession, and no division within our structure. Any suggestion to the contrary is false and should be disregarded,” the statement said.

It warned that it would take legal action against individuals spreading false information.

“Desist immediately. Failure to do so will compel the Association to take all necessary steps, including legal action, to protect its integrity and that of the Christian community,” the statement added.

The association urged the public and media to disregard the claims and rely on its official channels for information.
