A fire outbreak has destroyed several textile shops in Lagos after a three-storey commercial building went up in flames in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident, which occurred around 3:15 a.m., affected a building on Oyabiyi Street, opposite the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) office in the Tejuosho area of Yaba.

The structure housed multiple shops and storage spaces stocked with textile materials, many of which were consumed by fire. Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that emergency responders from Somolu, Ilupeju and Sari Iganmu stations were promptly mobilised to the scene. Their swift intervention helped contain the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby buildings.

Authorities reported that despite the scale of the incident, no casualties were recorded.

The agency also stated that the incident was one of two separate fire outbreaks recorded overnight across the state. The second occurred at Tower Aluminium Village in Dopemu, Agege, where offices and storage facilities were affected.

Fire service officials noted that both situations were successfully controlled without further escalation.
