Egbin Power Plc has been named Electricity Generation Company of the Year by Energy Times, in recognition of its operational efficiency and resilience in Nigeria’s troubled power sector.

The award was presented at the Energy Times Awards held in Ikeja, Lagos, where key players across the energy value chain converged to honour excellence and innovation.

In a statement made available to journalists, the company described the recognition as a reflection of consistent performance despite enduring structural challenges in the industry.

Egbin Power, Nigeria’s largest privately-owned thermal power generation company, said it remains committed to delivering reliable electricity to the national grid, stressing that performance—not visibility—drives recognition in the sector.

The firm noted that its operations have continued to prioritise discipline, reliability, and measurable outcomes, even as it acknowledged lingering inefficiencies across the power value chain.

“At Egbin Power, we have made a deliberate choice to be reliable, disciplined, and performance-driven. This recognition reflects the resilience of our people and the strength of our operations,” the company stated.

It added that sustainable electricity supply goes beyond generation, emphasising the need for efficiency across the entire value chain to ensure that generated power translates into actual revenue.

The Chief Executive Officer of Egbin Power Plc, Mokhtar Bounour, dedicated the award to the company’s workforce, commending their commitment to operational excellence.

“All the credit for this recognition goes to the team, whose dedication and determination continue to deliver outstanding results,” Bounour said.

He also credited the company’s board for providing strategic direction, noting that alignment between governance and management has helped sustain performance improvements.

Bounour further highlighted the role of Sahara Group, the company’s parent firm, in driving innovation and sustainability, adding that technology remains central to its long-term strategy.

“We are not just generating power; we are powering the future. Sustainability and affordability are not ambitions, but standards we uphold,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sahara Group Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Sahara Group, was also honoured as Social Impact Company of the Year for its contributions to sustainable development across Nigeria and Africa.

Energy Times, in its citation, praised Egbin Power for improving its average hourly generation in 2025 despite sector-wide constraints, attributing the feat to enhanced operational efficiency and proactive asset management.

The organisers noted that the company’s performance has continued to support grid stability, reinforcing its strategic role in Nigeria’s electricity sector.
