The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State, Dr Wole Oluyede, has challenged the state governor and All Progressives Congress flagbearer, Biodun Oyebanji, to a debate on what they want to offer citizens if elected.

The candidate made the challenge during a stakeholders’ meeting attended by party members from the 177 wards in the state on Sunday.

He said, “I challenge the governor to a debate. Such engagement will provide voters with the opportunity to assess the performance of the current administration against the proposal of the PDP”.

Oluyede, who promised prompt payment of gratuity, an affordable health scheme, and job creation, said he was ready to be questioned by the Ekiti people about what he would do to make the state great.

The PDP candidate said that he would run “an issue-based, data-driven and scientifically structured campaign” ahead of the June 20 election in the state.

He said that his campaign would adopt a “scientific approach anchored on data analysis, voter engagement metrics, and targeted grassroots mobilisation to ensure that political messaging reflects the real needs of the people.

“The time has come for politics in Ekiti to move beyond slogans to substance. Our campaign will be built on facts, data, and clear policy alternatives that the people can evaluate.”

“Our (PDP) campaign will prioritise key sectors including job creation, education, infrastructure and economic development. Each policy proposal will be backed by feasibility plans and implementation timelines,” he said.

Oluyede urged party members to intensify grassroots mobilisation across all wards and local government areas, describing it as critical to building a strong and coordinated campaign structure.

“Our focus is on the people. We will engage communities directly, understand their needs through data and interaction, and provide solutions that are practical and achievable,” he said.

PDP chieftain and a former National Assembly member, Senator Duro Faseyi, said that Oluyede’s victory in court was an affirmation that God was behind his candidature, as he enjoined Ekiti people to rally round him to turn around the situation of the state for the better.
