The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Sanusi, has appointed CSP Nuhu Usman as commander of the newly established of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) for the Command.
The appointment follows the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to streamline tactical operations by collapsing existing tactical units across state commands and formations into a unified response structure for violent crimes and related incidents.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, SP Josephine Adeh, Wednesday in Abuja, said the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) previously comprised 28 units, out of which 23 have now been collapsed.
“Officers from these units have been redeployed to various divisions across the Command, while selected personnel are undergoing retraining focused on compliance with human rights standards, professionalism, and international best practices in policing.
“Upon completion of the training, the officers will be deployed to the newly established VCRU, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring a more coordinated response to violent crimes within the FCT,” Adeh stated.
The PPRO noted that, “CSP Nuhu Usman was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on July 9, 2012. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and has attended several professional courses both locally and internationally, including the Liaison Officers Programme in China.
“He is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, and has served in various capacities within the Force, including Unit Commander, 50 PMF Kubwa; Sector Commander, Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering (North-East); Officer-in-Charge (OC) Narcotics, FCT Police Command; and until his appointment, Officer-in-Charge, Anti-One Chance Unit, FCT Command.”
She said while conferring the appointment, the CP Sanusi charged the new commander to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability, as well as ensuring effective coordination and prompt response to violent crimes across the FCT.
