Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has called on the Federal Government to consider dialogue as part of its strategy to tackle terrorism in the country.
Speaking on the security situation, Gumi argued that a purely military approach has not ended the insurgency and banditry affecting parts of the North.
He said engaging non-state actors through dialogue could complement ongoing security operations and help reduce violence.
Gumi maintained that understanding the grievances of armed groups and creating pathways for reconciliation would aid efforts to restore peace, especially in rural communities most affected by attacks and kidnappings.
He urged the government to adopt a multi-pronged approach that combines security enforcement with negotiation, intelligence gathering, and social interventions to address the root causes of insecurity.
