Happening now: Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso, Makinde, others storm Ibadan for opposition political parties’ national summit

Major political opposition stakeholders across Nigeria on Saturday April 25, 2026, converged on Ibadan, Oyo state capital, for a National Summit.

Prominent among the opposition political party leaders already in Ibadan for the summit included former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former governor of Anambra state Mr Peter Obi, renowned economist Prof. Pat Utomi and former governor and transport Minister Hon Rotimi Amaechi.

Others are National Chairman and Secretary Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Prof Jerry Gana and Alhaji Saminu Turaki.

The summit themed, “That We May Work Together For A United Opposition To Sustain Our Democracy”, kicked off at 12.53 with a National anthem inside government house.

The meeting has drawn key opposition stakeholders from across the country, with discussions expected to focus on national issues, political realignments, and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The gathering has generated significant political interest nationwide, with analysts closely watching for possible coalition moves among opposition blocs.

Security has been tightened at strategic locations across Ibadan as the summit progresses.
