African Democratic Congress chieftain and former presidential candidate Peter Obi visited Bauchi State on Thursday for a closed-door meeting with Governor Bala Mohammed.

The meeting, held at the Government House Presidential Lounge, took place amid growing political speculation over the Bauchi governor’s possible defection ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The purpose of the visit was not immediately disclosed, as both leaders met privately.
Both politicians were expected to address journalists after the meeting.

Governor Bala Mohammed, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, had recently hinted at a possible political shift during a March 31 engagement with an ADC delegation led by former SGF Babachir Lawal.

However, his political direction remains uncertain following subsequent meetings with figures linked to the APC, including Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.

Mohammed’s eventual political alignment is being closely watched, given his influence within the PDP and the wider implications for political realignments ahead of 2027.
