The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba Ahmed, has reacted to recent comments by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding insecurity and allegations of political exploitation of the situation by opposition figures........…
Baba Ahmed spoke during an interview on Trust TV News on Thursday, April 30, 2026, following remarks attributed to the president while addressing a delegation from Plateau State led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
The president had reportedly suggested that .... opposition actors were using insecurity as a political tool against his administration, while also describing himself as a “stubborn politician” who would not yield to such pressure.
Responding to the development, Baba Ahmed expressed disagreement with the president’s position, questioning his understanding of the country’s current challenges. “I don’t think our president even understands what Nigeria is going through, to be honest,” he said.
When reminded that the president serves as commander-in-chief, Baba Ahmed maintained his stance. “No, he doesn’t. If he doesn’t, he will not speak so glibly and he will not even tolerate a governor coming over to say that insecurity is being played out against him,” he stated.
He further outlined what he described as .... expectations of leadership in addressing national security concerns, emphasizing a more direct and engaged approach. “We would have a president with a hands-on approach to insecurity. We would have a president who is not so casual about this. We would have a president who would pay more, would release more than 7% of the amount of money budgeted for purchase of hardware,” Baba Ahmed said.
He also raised concerns about the scale of insecurity across the country and the perceived level of awareness within the administration. “We would have a president who understands that virtually every inch of Nigeria is not covered in insecurity. I don’t think, to be honest with you, I don’t think Tinubu is aware of the state in which Nigerians live. And that is a real tragedy,” he stated.
Baba Ahmed questioned the administration’s capacity to address key national challenges, including poverty and insecurity, if the current conditions are not fully acknowledged. “Because if you don’t know how we live now, what are you going to fix for the second time? The hunger, the poverty, the insecurity, the hopelessness of the people of this country. And you say, you’re fine,” he said.
He concluded by challenging claims that insecurity is being politicized, raising questions about the actors responsible for the crisis. “And your governor comes in and says, Nigerians are using insecurity. Now, who is doing it? The bandits, the kidnappers, or the people who are being killed and stolen? Who is playing this out?” Baba Ahmed added.…READ / MORE…
