The Oyo State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde and the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, dismissing reports of an alleged impeachment plot.
The resolution followed plenary in Ibadan, where lawmakers reaffirmed their support for both the executive and legislative arms.
Moving the motion, Majority Leader Sanjo Adedoyin described the allegations as unfounded.
He said the rumours were baseless, distracting, and politically motivated.
Adedoyin added, “The Assembly remains united and committed to its constitutional responsibilities, and no formal communication or process suggesting impeachment had been initiated within the chamber.”
Lawmakers also dismissed speculations linking the governor, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and some legislators to alleged plots against one another.
The House described such claims as unfounded and misleading.
The controversy had earlier been fuelled by comments from former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, which were denied by the state government and the palace.
Seconding the motion, Deputy Speaker Mohammed Fadeyi described the Assembly as united and commended the Makinde administration for its performance.
He highlighted achievements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
The Chief Whip, Gbenga Oyekola, also distanced lawmakers from any impeachment discussions and warned against spreading false claims.
He said, “There is no division in this House. We are focused on governance and delivering democratic dividends to the people of Oyo State through quality representation.”
Oyekola added, “The rumours making the rounds exist only in the realm of speculation and should be disregarded in their entirety by the public.”
The lawmakers reiterated that the House would not be influenced by external forces and reaffirmed their backing for both Makinde and Ogundoyin.
