A high-level delegation led by Pakistan’s army chief recently held discussions with Iranian officials regarding the possibility of restarting negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
The White House also indicated that Islamabad may host the next phase of talks. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt expressed confidence that continued diplomatic engagement could help bring the ongoing conflict closer to a resolution.
“We feel good about the prospects of a deal,” she said at a press briefing, calling conversations mediated by Pakistan “productive and ongoing.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also reiterated Tehran’s commitment to pursuing peace after meeting Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir.
At the same time, tensions remain high in the region. Iran’s military warned it could disrupt maritime trade in the Red Sea, the Gulf and the Sea of Oman if the United States continues its naval blockade of Iranian ports, as per Al Jazeera.
The US military has turned back multiple vessels attempting to leave Iranian ports since the blockade began. The US Central Command said the move had effectively halted Iranian maritime trade.
Military activity also continued on Israel’s northern front. Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon killed four paramedics and injured six others during an emergency response mission near Nabatieh, as per Al Jazeera.
